The Secret to Flawless Smart Lock Installations

You can buy the most expensive, advanced Wi-Fi deadbolt on the market, but if it is installed on a misaligned door, it will fail within weeks. A standard mechanical deadbolt allows you to pull or push the door slightly while turning the key to overcome friction. A motorized smart lock does not have that luxury. The tiny motor must push the heavy steel bolt completely horizontally. If the bolt rubs against the strike plate in the door frame, the friction causes severe battery drain and rapid motor burnout—the number one complaint of DIY smart lock installations. When we execute residential smart lock upgrades, we meticulously calibrate your door hinges and dynamically route the metal strike plate so the motorized deadbolt glides effortlessly with zero resistance.

Reinforcing the Physical Perimeter

A smart lock is only as secure as the wood it is mounted to. While we are upgrading the electronic brains of your entryway, we also upgrade the physical brawn. We reinforce the wooden door jamb by installing heavy-duty, extended metal strike plates using three-inch steel screws that bite directly into the "king stud" of your wall framing. This ensures that your new, high-tech lock is fiercely protected against violent kick-in attacks.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Is it safe to install a smart lock on my front door? Can it be easily hacked? Modern smart locks from reputable brands use advanced AES 128-bit encryption—the exact same digital security standard utilized by major online banking institutions. They are incredibly secure against digital hacking. The real vulnerability is usually physical installation error, which is why professional alignment and frame reinforcement are absolutely critical.
• What happens if my electronic smart lock battery dies while I am outside? Don't panic, you are not permanently locked out! Most smart locks feature a concealed mechanical keyway hidden behind the keypad faceplate so you can use a traditional backup key. For completely keyless models, there are two small exterior battery terminals where you can temporarily touch a standard 9-volt battery to power the keypad, enter your PIN code, and get inside to change the internal batteries.
• How often will I need to change the batteries in my smart lock? When professionally installed and perfectly aligned to eliminate friction, standard smart lock batteries (usually 4 AA batteries) should last anywhere from 6 to 12 months, depending on how heavily the door is used and how robust the Wi-Fi connection is.
• Can I keep my current door handle if I upgrade the deadbolt? Yes! In most cases, we can completely remove your old, mechanical deadbolt and replace it with a sleek new smart lock while leaving your existing lower door handle or knob perfectly intact. We carry smart locks in various finishes (matte black, satin nickel, bronze) to perfectly match your existing hardware.
